As a result of a Russian attack during the night of 19 July, a warehouse operated by an Alliance for Public Health contractor in the Kyiv region was completely destroyed. The warehouse stored medical supplies and HIV prevention commodities.
The warehouse contained syringes, needles, alcohol swabs, condoms, lubricants, and other medical supplies procured by the Alliance for Public Health with a total value exceeding USD 2.6 million.
Russia continues to destroy not only Ukraine’s civilian and healthcare infrastructure but also the essential resources on which people’s health depends. This attack destroyed HIV prevention commodities that ensure the continuity of HIV prevention programmes and help keep the HIV epidemic under control in Ukraine. It is an attack on the country’s public health system and on the more than 300,000 people who receive HIV prevention services each year.
At the same time, as part of its risk management strategy, the Alliance for Public Health completed the advance distribution of supplies to regions across Ukraine in June. As a result, all Alliance partners and the Public Health Center of Ukraine are fully supplied with HIV prevention commodities through the end of 2026, and there will be no interruption in the delivery of HIV prevention services.
However, the attack completely destroyed the stock intended to cover Ukraine’s needs for 2027. The Alliance for Public Health has already informed its international donors about the damage and the urgent need to restore HIV prevention supplies to ensure uninterrupted services in 2027.
