Support of Advocacy Initiatives Aimed at the Growing HIV/AIDS Epidemic Among Vulnerable Populations in Ukraine, Including Internally Displaced Persons from Crimea


Project duration: 1 September 2014–31 October 2018.

Project objectives:

  • Covering up to 5,000,000 people with media and public activities
  • Conducting at least three large scale public events
  • Initiating at least five media investigations on urgent awareness-raising and advocacy issues
  • Preparing 10 analytical materials on urgent issues
  • Involving at least 500 people in awareness-raising and advocacy activities for police and law-enforcement authorities
  • Providing legal support to at least 100 persons in need
  • Improving the state treatment program and guidelines
  • Reducing the cost of HCV treatment at least twofold
  • Providing treatment to at least 200 patients who are members of vulnerable populations
  • Developing and approving five local programs
  • Ensuring development by the Ukrainian Center of Disease Control of a reliable system of care and monitoring of HCV patients
  • Carrying out at least two national and 60 local activities all over the country dedicated to World Hepatitis Day
  • Testing over 600 people during public events
  • Distributing at least 6,000 copies of awareness-raising materials

The long-term project goal is promoting tolerance to members of vulnerable populations and initiating sustainable changes in the goals and local budget financing of HIV prevention activities among vulnerable populations.
