INTEGRATED HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE IN CONDITIONS OF WAR AND POST-WAR RECONSTRUCTION

Project goal: supporting communities for the purpose of provision for urgent humanitarian, social and medical needs as well as a dignified life in crisis conditions
Geography of project activities :
Western and Central regions: Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Rivne and Chernivtsi regions.
Eastern, Southern and Northern regions: Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kharkiv regions.
Project target groups:
- Internally displaced persons (IDPs) including those who have returned to the liberated territories;
- Individuals, households, groups affected by military actions;
- People who have been resettled and have lost their income as well as their social support networks and with limited access to medical and other services;
- People with difficult access to services and support (women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities);
- People living with HIV or vulnerable to HIV infection and related problems (PWID, SW, MSM, TG) as well as their partners, family and close circle;
- Other key groups.
Main areas of work:
- Psychological counseling and the psychologist’s support services;
- Counseling, support services and assistance provided by the social worker;
- Services for providing medical advice;
- Legal consulting services;
- Providing multi-purpose cash assistance for the urgent needs of households;
- Providing evacuation services;
- Organization of the safe spaces and supporting their activities;
- Providing mini-grants.
Results:
The total number of clients who received at least one service within the project (including all project services and mini-projects services) is 238,718 persons.
- Psychological counseling and the psychologist’s support services. In total, during the project implementation period psychological assistance was provided to 13,143 beneficiaries through 17,821 consultations. Psychological consultations concerned PTSD, problems with communication with relatives, feelings of anxiety and fear for the future and feeling of guilt etc.;
- Counseling, support services and assistance provided by the social worker: 64,612 services were provided to 49,758 persons. Key topics included information hygiene during war, important skills in a period of stress, rules of safe working, taking care of yourself and others, system of referrals to other specialists etc.
- Services for providing medical advice: 8,579 medical consultations were conducted for 7,157 persons. Clients were consulted by the family doctors, therapists, pediatricians, infectious disease specialists, gynecologists, phthisiologists, dermatovenereologists . In addition, 604 people received certificates for receiving medical services from specialized professionals based in private clinics: MRI, CT etc.
- Legal consulting services: 6,333 consultations were conducted for 5,413 people. Among the main topics were receiving material assistance from the state in connection with forced displacement, obtaining IDP certificates and restoring lost documents, etc.
- Providing multi-purpose cash assistance for the urgent needs of households: 2,997 households with 10,283 residents received cash assistance.
- Providing evacuation services: 14 NGOs in 9 regions provided evacuation of people who were in the territory of hostilities, under temporary occupation or were encircled (blocked) to a safe place and provided housing where the evacuees could temporarily live. Evacuation services and assistance in resettlement to a safe place were provided to 2,840 persons.
- Organization of the safe spaces and supporting their activities: In total 25 safe spaces were supported across Ukraine (Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Donetsk, Odessa, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Cherkasy, Lviv, Kharkiv regions) where assistance was provided to 24,404 individuals. These beneficiaries were provided with 35,692 services, including accommodation, household services, consultations with doctors, social workers, psychologists as well as case management, children’s camp, etc.
And also:
Based on the “Safe Place” in Lviv, which belongs to the Alliance, the following have been implemented:
- “Creative IT Professions Program” which was successfully completed by 304 teenagers aged 12 to 17, mainly from the frontline regions (Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Kherson). During this program, psychological support was given as well as assistance in choosing the future profession and the development of teenagers’ communication skills was done.
- “The “Safe Space” socialization program” which attracted 264 participants.
- “The Reintegration Program for IDPs” reached 132 participants.
- Psychological support: consultations were provided to 442 children and adults.
- Career guidance for children and parents. 289 people received career guidance testing and counseling, including online sessions.
- Mini-grants: In total 355 mini-grants were provided to the community initiative groups for implementation of various projects. These projects services reached 320,002 Ukrainians.
- Provision of humanitarian kits and certificates: During the project 33,242 humanitarian aid kits and certificates for purchasing necessary items (food, hygiene products, household chemicals, medicines, etc.) were distributed.
